Nutritional Therapy

Nutritionists aim to promote optimum health and wellbeing by suggesting dietary changes and by the appropriate use of supplements. People may visit a nutritional therapist for a variety of reasons. Your goal may be to lose weight, solve your digestive problems, address hormonal problems or to fuel yourself for sporting events.

What happens in a Consultation?

Prior to the consultation you will be asked to fill in a detailed health and lifestyle questionnaire and a food diary. During the consultation this will be discussed in more detail and a nutritional assessment is then made. Dietary and lifestyle changes will be suggested and a supplementation protocol is usually recommended depending on needs.

If you are taking any medications or supplements it may be helpful if you bring these along with you. You may also want to bring along the results of any recent medical tests.

How many visits will be required?

Some people may only require one or two visits. However, some people, perhaps with chronic illnesses, may require more visits. After the first consultation a follow up consultation is usually recommended at around 3 to 4 weeks.

Daily Mirror Diet Trial

The Daily Mirror recently enlisted the help of Natural Health Service nutritionist Rob Clark during their diet trial. Participants ate either a low-carbohydrate diet or the no-carbohydrate Atkins Diet for one month. All participants had two consultations with Rob, which included a personal health check and monitoring.

In this trial the best results were achieved with the low carbohydrate diet which included plenty of quality protein from fish, chicken, meat and eggs and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. The diet limited carbohydrates like potatoes and rice and cut out sugary foods and refined carbohydrates. Rob states that although participants did best on the low carbohydrate diet the Atkins diet can also work for well for those people who may have a problem with carbohydrates. Sometimes people may need to avoid carbohydrate completely for a certain period of time in order to shift their metabolism into fat burning mode.

The bottom line is that dietary advice should be different for everyone. If you would like a personal consultation with Rob Clark call 07775 750798 or email rob@robclark.info
