Do you have any advice on detoxing? A: Detoxing your body will have a beneficial effect on your health and your waistline, not to mention the confidence gained by seeing it through. If you are on medication, check with your doctor before starting. Heavy coffee or tea drinkers may have a headache for a couple days so drink plenty of water and sleep. Start your day with lemon juice and hot water, which will activate the liver and cleanse your mouth. Take two capfuls of aloe vera juice, add one tablespoon of psyllium husks, and mix in juice or water. This cleanses the whole digestive tract and helps with any bloating or constipation from the detox. Before you bathe, take a dry natural bristle brush and make light, sweeping strokes up your legs, down your arms and over your torso with all movements going towards the heart. This stimulates the lymphatic system, which filters toxins from the bloodstream and plays a large part in the detox. Avoid all refined foods and sugars. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, fish, brown rice and drink at least 2 litres of water a day. Suffice to say it is best not to drink alcohol, take drugs (unless prescription), or smoke during a detox as this will counteract all your good work. Snack on fruit between meals. Add a handful of nuts if you're really peckish. Make brown rice in advance and keep in the fridge. Buy ready cut veggies to have on hand. Buy a fresh juice instead of coffee and just do your best. Exercise daily. Even a series of quick walks will be beneficial so try to leave the office for a bit of air during the day. Finally, make sure to have a good laugh and do something that makes you feel really happy every day of the detox. © Adrianna Holman Registered Homeopath (RSHom) |
