Corrective Exercise

Most back and neck pain results from poor posture while seated or while carrying out physical activities such as bending and lifting. Other causes include being born with a particular weakness of the spine or suffering trauma, for example, in a sporting or traffic accident. For all these causes of neuromusculoskeletal pain, Corrective Exercise is often the best long-term solution.

In a Corrective Exercise consultation a detailed medical history is taken. Specific orthopaedic and neurological tests may be performed in order to assess the extent of any dysfunction. Detailed postural, muscle-length-tension and joint range of motion assessments are also undertaken.

From this information an individual Corrective Exercise programme is prepared which takes into account both the patient's capacity to exercise and their health and lifestyle goals. These programmes are designed and taught so that they can be undertaken by the patient at home.

As the patient's core/spinal stabilsation skills improve, the Corrective Exercise programme is modified with a view to more advanced exercises being safely introduced. Reassessment usually takes place every four weeks.
